Bone Grafting
Not only are bone grafting procedures used to regenerate lost bone due to the destruction caused by bacteria, but this procedure is also used to enhance the appearance of your teeth.
This is especially true in areas where there are indentations or concavities from missing teeth. Bone grafting provides a more bulky appearance in areas where the missing tooth has been replaced by a bridge or partial denture.
In addition, bone grafting may be indicated in areas where dental implants are needed to replace missing teeth. In areas where teeth have been removed, bone dimensions can collapse following extraction. This collapse can occur the first 6-12 months if augmentation procedures are not utilized. Therefore, bone grafting (or “ridge augmentation”) are important components of many restorative and cosmetic treatment plans.
