Periodontal Maintenance

Periodontal maintenance is the term used to describe dental therapy following the diagnosis and/or treatment of periodontal disease.

A multitude of studies have shown that this treatment is crucial to the prevention of recurrence of disease and will increase the longevity (or prognosis) of your natural teeth and/or dental implants. These studies also suggest this may be considered the most important aspect of your periodontal treatment.

Instead of a usual six-month dental cleaning regimen, your dentist and periodontist may recommend a more frequent regimen to ensure a healthy mouth. However, even with the best of home care and periodontal maintenance, further periodontal therapy may be suggested to aid in keeping your teeth.

What can you expect at these maintenance visits? Not only will you receive a thorough debridement of all tooth accumulations, but also a comprehensive assessment of probing depths and attachment levels, an oral cancer screening and updated x-rays.

TESTIMONIAL

“It gave me hope again, because my teeth looked terrible. I wouldn’t talk. I wouldn’t smile. I decided it was time for me to feel good about myself. Since I have had this procedure, my life has been rich. I talk, I laugh.”
